Qatar Flight Review - Flying Coach

Qatar Airways is considered one of the best airways in the world, with many prizes and multiple destinations across the globe.

We went from São Paulo, Brazil to Joanesburgo, South Africa and back with Qatar and I decided to write a review about our experience.

To start, the ticket costed more than we thought was reasonable, but we decided to travel with them considering all the good things we have heard, specially that it was the best company to fly with.

I had flown with Emirates before and thought it was amazing, but as the prizes said Qatar was even better, I obviously had very high expectations.

So let's begin on the very begining, when we arrived at the airport.

We had already made the check-in online, but when we arrived we couldn't find the right line for those that had done it, so we entered the regular line and Rafa went searching for the right one, when he found it, the line had only 3 people, so we changed lines. No joke, all lines were pretty short, but more than an hour later we still hadn't been called to the counter. The regular line was going way faster than ours and we couldn't understand how, considering we only had to despatch our bags. After a ling time, we finally made it.

Now about the aircrafts, Qatar says that their coach is better than any other, with more space, great service and so on. Well, in our case, that wasn't true at all! First we had a 14 hour flight, then a connection and then an 8 hour flight, so we hoped for a good experience.

The seats didn't seem an inch bigger than any other coach we have traveled on before. The second plane was a bit old, which we expected for other companies, but not Qatar, considering how they promote themselves.

Except from 1 flught attendant, all the others were moody and clearly didn't want to be there. It was just ask for a snack to get the impression that you were bothering and then they would hand you the snack.

Food was ok, not good nor bad.

We liked that they handed out amenity kits, with socks, tooth brush and paste, a sleeping mask and ear plugs.

Regarding the Covid situation, in our first flight the middle seats of each roll were free so there would be a distance between people, which we thought was great and in both flights they handed a kit containing disposable gloves, a mask and a hand sanitizer.

On our way back, we also made our check-in online, but this time the employees were more efficient , which was good. This time, the flight order was first an 8 hour, then a 14 hour.

Coming back, no even one of the flight attendants were sympathetic during the flights, they were really moody. The second aircraft was new, we liked that..

There was no distancing in any of the flights to avoid Covid contamination, actually they were pretty full! Again, they handed kits with mask, disposable gloves and hand sanitizer.

Here is the worst part, I have NEVER such a thilthy restroom in my life, if I could have avoided it, I definately would (14 hours people...). There was toilet paper and pee on the ground, pee on the toilet lid, the sink was dirty and the trash was full.

Here is a compliment, despite the fact that our connections were very short, our lugagge arrived perfectly and at the same time as we did.

So, after all this, what I can say is: Qatar is way overrated, by the way, we think most companies are better than this one. If next time we travel there are flights from other companies to wherever it is we are going, we are going to choose another one over Qatar, chances are the aircraft will be pretty much the same and the cleanliness and service will be a lot better. Harsh? Yes, but 100% true.
